If you were to make your top ten picks of the world's most respected music recording facilities, Allen Sides' Ocean Way Recording would almost certainly make your list, likely toward the top. The reason is simple: the studio's proven track record of success is built on a list of top-selling albums by artists ranging from Eric Clapton to Eminem; Ice Cube to Incubus; Janet Jackson to John Mayer; Radiohead to Ray Charles. The Hollywood studio, which has a venerable history going back to the '50s as United Recording and Western Recording, is owned by Grammy-winning engineer Allen Sides, and is perhaps best known as one of the premiere mixing facilities in the world. The large soffit-mounted monitors custom designed for the room by Sides were especially well known as some of the finest high-definition speakers available.
As time went by, engineers who had worked at Ocean Way began asking Allen to create custom monitoring systems for other facilities, and thus began the start of Ocean Way Monitoring Systems. At the end of 2006, Allen Sides and GC Pro partnered to make GC Pro the exclusive distributior of Ocean Way Monitoring Systems. Got all that? Customized for Your Studio
First, let's be clear: you won't be walking into a store and picking up a set of Ocean Way monitors in a box, throwing them on your moped and riding home. Each system is made to order, and the folks at Ocean Way won't even take your order until they've taken a look at your room. The price of an Ocean Way system includes a pre-evaluation of your studio, as well as complete installation and alignment, all cables, connectors and wiring.
Here's the interesting thing: Ocean Way is the only manufacturer of high resolution large monitors that essentially guarantees an end result. In other words, they say that when you get a demo of their monitors, "every aspect of what you hear is the exact sound you will hear in your room." We can't think of any other monitor maker that can make that claim.
So, they come over, they acoustically evaluate the space, and make suggestions to cost-effective correct any potential problems before they install your monitor system. Ocean Way is happy to do this in existing spaces as well from architectural plans for a new space.
