GC PRO SUPPORTS THE NEW VANGUARD JAZZ ORCHESTRA RECORDING "MONDAY NIGHT LIVE AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD"

Over four decades after the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra’s first live recording at the Village Vanguard, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (VJO), the latest incarnation of the original ensemble, recorded Monday Night Live at the Village Vanguard which was release in July of 2008 on Planet Arts Recordings.

The live recording at the august and famous jazz club follows five critically acclaimed studio recordings that have garnered seven GRAMMY nominations, one AFIM award and one GRAMMY win.

The recording was engineered by Ed Reed of Lighthouse Recording and ably assisted by our own GC PRO audio specialists Rick Rivera and Ben Krumholtz. Mixing and mastering are scheduled to be done by long time VJO associates Gary Chester and Alan Silverman.

The thirty-two track recording required the crew to take a very creative approach to audio setup and microphone placement. The small club, intimate stage and seventeen musicians created challenges that were flawlessly executed by Mr. Reed and the GC PRO staff.

Through GC Pro’s loan program and professional resources we were able to supplement Ed’s microphone arsenal and provide other high end gear from two of our long standing clients. Our thanks go out to Emerson Jones at Basement Audio for the A&H 32ch console and Jack Koza for the Clear Com Headsets.

The A&H console coupled with Ed’s 4 Tascam DA88’s and Tascam’s new X48 Hard Disk recorder allowed us to get 32 mic’s tracked to all the units. The X48 served as our backup unit. All of the equipment performed without fault through four sets of music over the two night period.

This is yet another case where GC Pro resources have been able to contribute in a big way to a major event. The Village Vanguard Night Club and the legendary Vanguard Jazz Orchestra are world renowned cultural institutions. We are proud to say we were a part of this historic recording.
